Recent Events An original mixed media work on paper by Deborah T. Colter is to be included in the Corporate Art Collection of Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. Mary Bell Galleries closes, becomes Gallery KH. Galleries come and go, but few have the staying power of Mary Bell Galleries. Founded 32 years ago by its namesake, the gallery was one of the pioneers of the River North arts district. Bell first opened her gallery in 1979 on Hubbard Street before moving it to 740 N. Franklin. Mary Bell recently made the decision to sell the gallery to Lissa Kivisto and Kristen Hagan, who have moved it to a new space and transformed it into Gallery KH with the help of Mary Bell veteran Shannon Rather. The new gallery makes its debut Friday, June 6, from 5pm to 8pm with a reception for the show "Tribute," which is, yes, a tribute to the history of the its predecessor, featuring the latest work by 27 of the gallery's core contemporary artists including Deborah T. Colter. Deborah has recently been selected to exhibit at the Atlanta Arts Festival in September 2008. Bringing together outstanding artists from all over the country with the large and enthusiastic art buying community of the Atlanta area, Atlanta Arts Festival will feature 200 of the country's finest painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metal craftsmen, glass blowers and more! Anika Therapeutics of Bedford, MA. has recently selected an original mixed media work on paper by Deborah T. Colter to be included in their Corporate Art Collection. Boston Residential Group, LLC has recently purchased a triptych panel by Ms. Colter to be placed in the lobby of their newest condominium community, 285 Columbus, which is located at the intersection of the South End and Back Bay neighborhoods of Boston. The Marriott Copley Place Boston, MA. has recently commissioned an original mixed media work on paper by Deborah T. Colter to be included in their Corporate Art Collection. The Canadian company SemCams of Calgary, Alberta has recently selected an two original mixed media works, one paper and one on canvas to be added to their Corporate Art Collection. The J.W. Marriott Corporation has selected an original mixed media work on canvas by Deborah T. Colter to be included in their Corporate Art Collection at the Desert Ridge Resort Project in Phoenix, AZ. The Red Door Gallery in Richmond, Virginia has invited Ms. Colter to exhibit her mixed media paintings in a feature show to start off their 2008 season. The show is scheduled to open in January 2008. The Red Door Gallery was founded in 2006 and shows original works of established and emerging artists. They concentrate on large format contemporary paintings as well as indoor and outdoor sculpture. The gallery offers a lively atmosphere in a neighborhood of Richmonds finest galleries and restaurants and within walking distance of Virginia Commonwealth University. Wells Fargo of San Francisco, CA. has recently selected an original mixed media work on canvas by Deborah T. Colter to be included in their Corporate Art Collection. Deborah has been selected to exhibit at the 26th Annual Outdoor Festival of the Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT. The Bruce Museum sponsors two Festivals each year with the purpose of fostering an appreciation of, and increasing an interest in, the arts. The first standard is excellence of work to be exhibited. The festivals are strictly juried from slides. A maximum of 80 exhibitors is selected from the top entrants. They do not accept dealers, imports, or reproductions.The show takes place on Columbus Day weekend, October 6 & 7, 2007. The McCormack Firm, LLP of Boston, MA. has recently selected two original mixed media works on paper by Deborah T. Colter to be added to their Corporate Collection. A Major Force in Chicagos River North Gallery District, Mary Bell Galleries, will feature the work of Ms. Colter in a Solo Show titled, "Mechanics of Memory" The Exhibit is scheduled to open on April 20, 2007 and runs through May 28, 2007. The Water Street Gallery in Saugatuck, Michigan has recently signed an agreement with Deborah T. Colter for representation of her original works in the western Michigan area. The gallery works with both corporate and private clients. Ms. Colter will be featured in a show titled "Paper Cuts" that opens in the October 2007. The Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Association has invited Deborah to participate in the 76th annual June Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show which takes place on the sidewalk circling Rittenhouse Square, a beautiful and historic park in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. The June show features over 140 artists showing original works only and has the distinction of being the oldest outdoor art show of only original art in the entire country. The 2005 Saint Louis Art Fair jury has selected Deborah to participate in this year's festival which takes place on September 8, 9, & 10, 2006 in Saint Louis, MO. More than 1500 applicants from all 50 states, Canada, Israel, Belgium, France, Germany and Argentina competed for 141 available exhibitor booths at the Saint Louis Art Fair. The Saint Louis Art Fair is one of the most competitive outdoor, juried art exhibitions in the country. Art Source L.A., Inc. is a full service international art consulting firm with offices in Santa Monica, California and North Bethesda, Maryland. An exciting new venture on Martha's Vineyard, The Belushi Pisano Gallery, a subsidiary of the Second Chance Foundation, will be representing the work of Deborah T. Colter on Martha's Vineyard. Net profits from gallery sales will go to the awards coffers of the Foundation, with the intention of supporting local individuals or organizations in need. The Symmetry Gallery, Ltd. in Troy, Michigan has asked Ms. Colter to be a part of their Grand Opening show in December. The show will run through January 9th, 2005. Art Fair jury has selected Deborah to participate in this year's
festival which takes place on September 24, 25, & 26, 2004 in Kansas
City, MO. The highly competitive Festival received 1431 applicants for
176 available spaces. The Fair is ranked #6 in the Country by
the Artfair Sourcebook. The 2004 Washington Mutual Coconut Grove Arts Festival Jury has selected Deborah to participate in this year's festival which takes place February 14, 15, & 16, 2004. The Festival received over 1300 applicants for 300 available spaces last year. The Xanadu
Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona is now representing Deborah T. Colter.
A feature show titled "Ordinary Spectacle" will take place
the week of February 26, 2004 - March 6, 2004 with an opening reception for
the artist to take place on the night of Saturday, February 28, 2004, 6-9
pm. The show will feature many new works on paper, birch panel, and on canvas. The RISD/WORKS
Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island will include eight paintings in the Holiday
show titled "Small Works". The newest edition of The Sourcebook of Architectural & Interior Art, Book 18, published by The Guild Sourcebooks in Madison, Wisconsin, features the work of Deborah T. Colter on page #257. In the mixed media section. A showing of works on paper titled at the Sharon Arts Center in Peterborough, NH., has been very well received. The show titled, 'In Delicate Balance', will close on the October 20, 2004. Columbus Day at Paradise City Northampton proved to be a wonderful weekend. Strong sales and beautiful weather combined for a great show in a terrific area of Western Massachusetts. October 11,12, & 13, 2003. Two paintings by Deborah T. Colter were recently placed in the Corporate Collection of The Walker Marchant Group in Washington, DC. A successful three day trip to New York City for the Rockefeller Center Arts Festival in May ushered in the spring season. Preparations are being made for a trip to the Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton, MA. Show dates are May 29, 30 & June 1, 2003. During the month of October 2002, work by Colter and Chantale Legare (3 paintings each) from the 2 year project based on the works of Bachalard travelled to Dallas to be featured in "Matter, Dream, and Thought: A Symposium on the Works of Gaston Bachelard," on November 1-3, 2002, presented by The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture. In September 2002, Deborah Colter along with Rose Abrahamson, Susan Button, Chantale Legare and Janet Woodcock presented a Film and Artist's Talk at the Dragonfly Gallery in Oak Bluffs. The film "The Idea We Live In" by Pilar Rodriguez, referenced similar themes that related to the works on view by the 5 artists and each artist spoke about the working together on the group and the artistic process. Three small paintings on masonite where chosen by Olga Hirshorn for the prestigious "Vineyard Galleries Show" at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs this past August 2002. Ms. Hirshorn, long time island resident and widow of businessman/art collector Joesph Hirshorn, curated this exhibition which drew on works from 11 island galleries.
